It feels like an exceptionally long time since we were last in contact. It is not because we did not want to continue our efforts to keep you informed of events in and around our border region. However, it has been difficult for the past 10 months to find a topic we felt was worth sharing.
We thought about providing you with updates regarding the COVID situation and the applicable rules and regulations, but we felt this topic was more than adequately covered by the different media, and given the speed at which the situation was evolving we were concerned that we wouldn’t be able to provide you with the most up to date information.
On the other hand, it was hard for us to find something meaningful to share with you. After the first lockdown, when shops, restaurants and bars reopened, we thought of providing you with tips on where to go, but seeing that, in some cases, health and safety rules were not rigorously respected, we were unsure about what to recommend.
However, with the end of the year fast approaching and despite the uncertain COVID situation, we thought it was important to reconnect.
This year, it looks like we will still be under restrictions over the Christmas period. Nevertheless, this festive period will still be an opportunity to celebrate and to exchange gifts with our family and friends.
With a lot of shops closed, it is tempting to go to the large well-known e-commerce sites. However, we are keen to provide you with some alternatives. We have carefully selected 10 companies mostly based in Alsace with great gift ideas. As with the large online retailers, you can order online and have your gift delivered to your doorstep (in France mostly). Note: most of these companies are very small and their websites are often only in French. It is an opportunity for you to practice your local language skills. 😉
To support our local economy, we have also put together a non-exhaustive list of local restaurants offering a take away service.
In the coming weeks we will provide you with more alternatives for your Christmas shopping with click and collect options in the neighbourhood.
Take care, stay safe.
Your dedicated TFL team
